At about 8 or 9 in the evening, depending on whether you use Winnipeg time or Ontario time, we pulled into Winnipeg's Union Station. The current crew was handing over to a fresh crew who would be with us the rest of the journey. We could get off for a couple of hours. They even suggested we could get to The Forks Market before closing time. Some of the passengers took the suggestion.
I chose however to stay near the station. This is the Manitoba Legislative Building, which is to the west of the station, at the back.
The interior of the station is quite handsome. It was one of only three grand stations I visited with the Canadian, besides Toronto and Vancouver. The other stops were unremarkable stations.
There weren't any commercial facilities open in the station though. But we had everything we needed on the train.
Later on I searched for the origin of Winnipeg, and it's of native origin. I had half hoped it might be a combination of Winnie and Peggy.
I ventured out the front entrance to take pictures of the streets near the station. Looking out of the station.
It was quiet, being a weeknight, and Monday at that.
And because we slept through the rest of the journey through Manitoba, Winnipeg is really the only place I saw in that province. Next up is Saskatchewan.
