The Canadian: Alberta

In the late afternoon we travelled past priarie landscapes with rolling hills.

One of the rivers slicing through the landscape, about 100 km east of Edmonton.

Another one.

Near the town of Viking, about 50 km east of Edmonton.

Sunset, so we would reach Edmonton Station after dark.

Obligatory sunset over water photo.

Approaching Edmonton, capital of Alberta there were impressive highways and flyovers. I even got 5G service on my phone. Edmonton derives a lot of income from fossil fuel extraction.

The station is north of the city centre and is unfriendly to travellers due to the lack of public transport there; you need a taxi or a lift. The station is hemmed in by major highways. We didn't stop long, there was no room for passengers to stand in the open.

In the morning, just after breakfast, we arrived at Jasper. It's the commercial centre of Jasper National Park. Many passengers would be getting off to take side trips of their own in the Rockies.

It was still dark enough for the interior lamps to compete with the rising sun's light.

A half-hour later, it was light outside, and we prepared to resume westwards.

Some distance out from Jasper we crossed into the province of British Columbia.
